Beginning Three Step Sparring (alone) is what's required for testing to 9th Kup white belt (yellow stripe or high white belt). Beginning Three Step Sparring (alone) is of course performed without a partner.
RULES (Guidelines)
A. Measuring distance is important for Intermediate 3-step sparring. The partners should make every effort to use correct distance, and proper/correct stances to avoid possible injury.
B. The appropriate blocks, attacks and counter attacks are the second most important rule.
Stepping Guidelines
If the attacker uses a walking stance and the defender as well, then the attacker will step to the outside of the defender's front foot, then to the inside, followed by the outside. If the L-stance is used, the attacker will step to the inside of the defenders front foot, then to the outside, then back to the inside. If the attacker uses an L-stance and defender a walking stance, then the attacker will step to the inside of the defender's front foot with all three steps. The attacker must step to the same spot that was measured to when the first attack is made.
Attacking Guidelines
All three attacks will be the same hand or foot technique and all three from the same stance. With only one counterattack.
Ending Guidelines
The most junior will not begin to step into their "return" (baro) position until the senior student has begun to step into the return (baro) position. At the end of the techniques, if the distances between the two needs to be readjusted, then the one that is doing the attacking will step into an attention stance to signal the defender that it is necessary to re-adjust the measurement. The defender will step into an attention stance and the attacker will re-measure the distance.
